Kate Nicolarsen LIMHP, LCSW, LADC

Biography

Kate earned both her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work (2000) and her Master’s Degree in Social Work (2002) from the University of Kansas. Kate started her career in Omaha working in a nonprofit setting focusing on child and adolescent mental health. Her interest and knowledge grew and understanding mental health and life challenges across the lifespan became an important part of her work. Kate started working at Psychiatric Services, PC in 2016 and has appreciated the collaborative care that our clinic can provide. Kate currently works with children, adolescents and adults and is comfortable with most all areas related to mental health and substance use recovery. Kate practices from a client centered perspective which means that she is a partner in a person’s treatment and recovery. She believes that everyone has an innate ability to heal and recover and places value on identifying each person’s individual strength and resilience. She works from a trauma informed perspective and believes that through processing our life experiences, we can better understand our thought patterns, emotions and body responses, which can significantly improve our emotional and mental health.

Kate enjoys and practices interventions from a variety of treatment approaches and theories including cognitive behavioral therapy, DBT, EMDR, attachment and family systems. The therapeutic relationship is the most important part of the change process, so value is placed on building a relationship that feels safe, supportive and collaborative.
