Patient and Professional Education

After completing college at Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1999, I began my studies at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. While I was initially drawn to primary care, I soon realized that I preferred a slower pace than family practice. As my fascination with the workings of the mind grew from various exposures to psychiatry and psychology, I found that my greatest satisfaction came when I was investigating, educating, and treating my patients who presented with emotional or behavioral problems. A career in psychiatry was a natural fit.

I completed my medical schooling at UNMC in 2003, and in 2008 completed a five-year residency in psychiatry and fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Creighton/UNMC. I was immediately drawn into residential treatment and relocated to Montana, where I had the honor of working among a team of professionals whose sole purpose was to restore well-being to children and teenagers with such a high severity of illness that they were no longer able to live at home.

I decided to return to my home city of Omaha in 2010, and had the opportunity to work at Alegent Creighton Health until 2014, doing a variety of work ranging from inpatient, partial hospitalization, and outpatient work.

My love of outpatient psychiatry and the encounters afforded to me there led to a natural transition to private practice. What I most enjoy about my profession is the part I get to play in restorating the health of my patients. While there are many medical conditions that you can see with your naked eye, what I help with is no less damaging, but I feel all the more rewarding. I have the honor of helping people achieve a higher quality of life than they had before, and in many cases get to assist children and adults in maturing and flourishing into the people that God created them to be.

After graduating with honors from Creighton University in 1981, I began medical school at UNMC where I chose to dedicate my career to Psychiatry. I have been fortunate to be affiliated with Psychiatric Services, P.C. since completing my residency training at the combined Creighton/Nebraska program in 1989.

I greatly value ongoing medical education and have been fortunate over the past 10 years to train with numerous national leaders on the latest psychiatric developments and medications. I have been able to use this knowledge to train community physicians, P.A.'s and other practitioners. I have enjoyed volunteer faculty appointments at both Creighton University and UNMC, and feel these teaching experiences make me a better doctor.

My personal goal is to use my medical expertise to stay on the cutting edge of psychiatric medicine with a primary focus being psychopharmacology.

I am very blessed and honored to have the unique opportunity to be intimately involved in the lives of my patients. I support their recovery at what may be one of the more challenging times of their lives. I believe that open and honest two-way communication fosters growth and development.

Our entire group has emphasized leadership in the mental community. I have served as the President of the Nebraska Psychiatric Society and have served on or chaired multiple committees at Methodist Hospital and Richard Young Hospital.

I truly believe that I could find no more rewarding career than the position I have with Psychiatric Services. Our team specializes in psychopharmacology with expertise in evaluation, diagnosis and treatment formulation. Our office uses a holistic approach to care involving physicians, therapists, and a psychologist allows us to provide patient centered, cost effective, and high quality care.
